Thank you for your patience as we have worked to create an elementary orchestra plan for the 2020-2021 school year. We apologize for the delay, but we had to wait for the district to approve it's final plan before we could finalize ours.
Unfortunately, the district has decided to discontinue 4th grade beginning orchestra. This coming school year, we will be teaching 5th and 6th grade orchestra. We will be offering two orchestra classes, Orchestra A (beginning/intermediate) and Orchestra B (advanced). To see your school’s orchestra schedule, please click here. We will be following all state and district guidelines as we return to orchestra for the school year.
This orchestra class is for beginning 1st year students or those entering 2nd year who would like to reinforce basic skills. If 2nd year students did not practice their instruments since March or struggled during 1st year last year, they should take Orchestra A. To register for Orchestra A, please click here.
This orchestra class is for advanced elementary orchestra students. All 3rd year, 6th grade students should register for this class. 2nd year students who are taking private lessons or who regularly practiced over the summer should also take Orchestra B. If your child can say and play his/her flashcards in under one minute and can play Simon Tov (a piece we learned last year, Strings Extraordinaire pg. 20) this is a good indication of being ready for Orchestra B. To register for Orchestra B, please click here.
This year we will have an online only orchestra option for Orchestra B (intermediate and advanced students only). We are working with Marsali Hancock (Distinguished Visiting Scholar at Stanford University) to create an interactive online orchestra class. Online students will be assigned an orchestra teacher who specializes in online music instruction. We will be using our website and an innovative music education app to provide this service. To register for online MWSA Orchestra B, please click here.
We will still be having Ambassador Orchestra this school year. To become an Ambassador, your child must be registered as an Orchestra B student in his/her 2nd year. Students must practice over the summer (and recorded practice minutes), take private lessons and complete all the audition requirements. Auditions will be the first week of October. Rehearsals will take place on Friday afternoons. This orchestra is only for students registered in an MWSA elementary orchestra class.
Mountain West Youth Symphony
This is a new honors orchestra for 6th grade orchestra students. To join this orchestra, your child needs to be in 6th grade (Orchestra B - 2nd or 3rd year) and must learn the audition requirements. Auditions will take place the second week of October. Rehearsals will take place on Friday afternoons. This orchestra is for any 6th grade student in Cache Valley.

We Need Your Help
Recently we found out that River Heights City will be selling or demolishing the building we have used as our shop for the past 15 years. We are currently looking for a new location. If you know of any place that could be suitable for our organization, please let us know. Here are some ideal specifications that would meet our needs:
- Minimum size between 1,000 and 2,000 square feet
- Temperature control between 60 to 70 degrees (between 50 and 80 degrees would be acceptable)
- Located centrally in the valley (anywhere from Providence to North Logan is ideal)
- Affordable rental price (as a non-profit, we do not have a high budget allocation for rent)
We are looking forward to a unique and rewarding 2020-2021 school year. Please email us at email@example.com with any questions or concerns. Thank you and happy practicing!
