1st Year Registration

1st year Orchestra Information

2026-2027

Orchestra is offered at all elementary schools in the Cache County and Logan City School Districts.  No prior musical experience is required.  Classes are offered at every elementary school 2 days per week.  Class is held either before or after school.  Class schedules for the 26-27 school year will come out in August. School assemblies are held at each elementary school before registration nights. Watch for a flier to come home.

Cache District- Orchestra is offered to all 4th, 5th grade students.

Logan District- Orchestra is offered to all 4th and 5th grade students.

Students that are homeschooling or attending a charter school are welcome to join also.  You can pick the school that fits your schedule.  Students have to be in at least the 4th grade.

Students can choose to play one of the following instruments:
Violin  
Viola
Cello
Bass (with approval from Director)*

*All students interested in playing the bass MUST contact Laura Morgan at mountainweststrings@gmail.com or 435-760-1743 BEFORE September 8th or you will not be allowed to play bass.  All students wanting to play bass must also commit to attending the Friday afternoon bass lab classes or take private lessons.

All 1st year registrations take place in person. We do not register 1st years online.

However you can save time by starting the process and pre-registering before you come! Registration payment will be made on registration night.

  • Registration Dates- September 10 & 11 at Mount Logan Middle School

  • Bass Registration only - September 9th (by invitation)

  • Registration sessions are held every 20 minutes starting at 5:00, 5:20, 5:40, 6:00, 6:20, 6:40, 7:00 or 7:20.  Come either night!

  • Registration Fee is $70.  This includes music books, MWSA workbook, bag, and t-shirt.  Stands are available for $15. 

  • Classes will begin the week of September 21st.

Instrument Information

Rent

Cache District-  Students can rent a violin, viola, cello or bass from MWSA on registration nights.  Rentals are assigned on a first come, first served basis.  Rentals are $75 for the school year with a $50 refundable deposit.

Logan District- Students can rent a violin, viola, cello or bass for $75 for the school year on registration nights.

Please do not buy an instrument from Ebay or other online bidding sites.  These instruments are often poorly made and require a lot of work to even be playable. 

Mountain West String Academy (MWSA) is the official elementary orchestra program for the Cache County and Logan City School Districts.
